Following her artistic and design training, Claire Xuan obtained a diploma in set design and worked in advertising and film for a short time but quickly came back to the world of photography, an art she had first taken up at the age of 17
Claire returned to France in 1995 to concentrate exclusively on photography and worked on her artist's book concept, which consisted of a publication of artistic photography and a small collection of ancient etchings.
In 1996 Claire journeyed to the land of her ancestors, to the source of her origins and inspiration. This would be chronicled in the major works that followed, and it was in 1998 that 'VIETNAM AND THE FIVE ELEMENTS' was published.
Asia's 5 fundamental elements are at the source of Claire Xuan's inspiration and are the point of communion of all of her work. Of Vietnamese origin, Claire has a particular interest in Eastern Asian philosophy. Through her photography she captures the imprint of the elements present in the planet's natural forms.
