This portfolio is the sixth in “the Five Elements Collection”. It was created by Claire Xuan in 2005, in Thailand, in relation to Metal, Wood, Earth and Water.

While Metal is epitomized by the gold leaves of the votive paper protecting a bonze statue, Water is symbolized by the sacred fish from a river located at the foot of a temple in the Khao Sok National Park and the reflection of a Buddha warrior statue in Chiang Mai.

Wood is represented by the teak wood Royal Palace, former summer residence of King Rama VII, built in the 20s in Hua Hin.

As for Earth, it is epitomized by the red brick temples of Ayutthaya and the figurines at the foot of a giant Buddha statue in Sukkhothai.

Thai epigraphs and an excerpt from the stele of “King Ramkhamhaeng the Great” who reigned in the 13th century inspired the design of the parchments.
